Washington, DC — September 14, 2012: Lightspeed Aviation Founder and President Allan Schrader accepted the “Champion of Public Benefit Flying” award from the National Aeronautical Association and the Air Care Alliance on behalf of the Lightspeed Aviation Foundation yesterday at the awards ceremony in Washington D.C.

The Lightspeed Aviation Foundation was selected for this prestigious award “in recognition of Lightspeed’s significant contribution by creating a support system enhancing groups involved in public flying.”

The Lightspeed Aviation Foundation was launched in 2010 to recognize and reward organizations which help grow the pilot population, support education to extend the future of aviation and to serve others through the use of aviation resources. A unique feature of the Foundation’s giving is that the organizations that receive funding are voted on by Lightspeed customers and the pilot community at large. Since its inception in 2010, the Lightspeed Aviation Foundation has contributed over $250,000 to aviation charities. The next contributions will be the 2012 Pilot’s Choice awards which will be given in November, and the Customer Choice awards which will be given at Sun ‘n Fun next April.

The awards ceremony took place yesterday in the Lyndon B. Johnson Room of the United States Senate. The National Aeronautical Association created the Public Benefit Flying Awards in 2003 to recognize significant contributions by people and organizations who voluntarily put their aviation skills, talents, and equipment to use to benefit other people.
